Summer holidays are coming to an end in Europe. At least mine are already over. Unfortunately! That means back home and back to work.
I thought I would take more time to write during my holidays, but instead I took the time to read. Magazines and books. I would like to tell you more about one book in particular: Brutal, by Nabila Sharma. I received that book as a Christmas present a couple of years ago, but hadn’t taken the time to read it yet. I’m very happy I finally did!
This book tells the true story of Nabila Sharma, a young girl (nowadays woman) who has been abused by her imam. What a striking story! Her descriptions are so vivid, that they made me shiver, even on a warm, sunny day at the beach. Having to face the cruelty of a single man, she was also confronted with secrecy and family pride at its worst.
This book is a great representation of a woman’s voice that has finally been heard, while a little girl’s voice had been silenced and ignored for much too long. A story both terryfying and inspiring.
